Widemouth Bay is a fantastic stretch of coastline with over 1 ½ miles of golden sand and great surf. It’s a perfect place for learning to surf and improving your skills, especially as Widemouth Bay’s crystal clear water retained its Blue Flag status for 2016.

Situated in Bude on the North Cornwall coastline Widemouth Bay beach is a is a large sandy beach with plenty of parking. The beach has a range of amenities such as toilets and showers and is patrolled by the RNLI Lifeguards from Easter through to October. It has a number of cool cafes to chooses from as well as some lovely restaurants all within walking distance from the beach.
Surfers flock from far and wide to come and surf Widemouth Bay beach as it has great exposure to the atlantic swells. The beach has a sandy bottom and you can surf here at most stages of the tide. The lifeguards mark out a safe swimming and bodyboarding area (Red and Yellow Flags) and a safe surfing area (black and white Flags). The car park at Widemouth Bay beach seems to double as the unofficial surf club to everyone that comes to enjoy the waves and is a great place to meet other people who love to enjoy the ocean.
Widemouth Bay beach is an excellent place to learn to surf and no trip would be complete without catching a few waves with us down in The Bay. For the more intermediate surfer the bay provides access to its neighbouring beach of Black Rock Beach or SaltHouse for the more experienced surfer.
Even if you are not surfing there is plenty of exploring. It has lots of rock pool and rock formations to enjoy, small sandy coves where you can always find a quiet spot.
